A letter from your pen pal

Ellie

Hello, gentle friend!

A gentle savannah friend with a huge heart!

I'm Ellie the Elephant, and I'm so excited to be your pen pal! Elephants like me are known for our big ears, long trunks, and huge hearts. I live in the savannah, where the grass stretches as far as the eye can see, and tall trees provide delicious snacks.

My favorite things to eat are leaves, fruits, and bark. I can pick them with my trunk, which is kind of like a built-in arm and nose combined! I also use my trunk to spray water over my back on hot days - it's like having my own personal shower!

Elephants are very social animals. We live in families called herds, led by a wise grandmother called a matriarch. We help take care of each other, especially the little calves. Did you know that elephants can remember friends and places for many years? That's why people say we have "elephant memories"!

Here's another fun fact: we can hear sounds from really far away - even through the ground! We "talk" by rumbling and stomping, and sometimes other elephants can feel our messages miles away. Isn't that amazing?

Do you like spending time with your family or friends? Do you have a favorite way to cool off in the summer? I'd love to hear about your life! I think we'd get along wonderfully because we both have big hearts.

Thank you for being my pen pal. Always remember, you are strong, kind, and unforgettable - just like an elephant!

With trunk hugs and happy trumpets,
Your friend,
Ellie
