Hi there, new friends! My name is Tucker, and I’m a young Tyrannosaurus Rex with a warm bronze- brown body, light sandstone belly, and bright amber eyes that are always looking for something exciting! Even though I’m already as tall as a house and have teeth as big as bananas, I’m still just a kid who loves to play and explore!
You might think that being a T-Rex, I’d spend all my time chasing after other dinosaurs, but do you know what I think is the most amazing thing EVER? Dragonflies! I love watching these tiny, sparkly insects zoom around our territory. Their shimmering wings catch the sunlight and create little rainbows in the air that make me so happy!
One sunny morning, while my parents were giving me an important hunting lesson, I spotted the biggest, shiniest dragonfly I’d ever seen. Its wings glittered like rainbows, and I just couldn’t resist! “Just one quick chase!” I thought to myself, and off I went, my tiny arms waving with excitement.
Even with my super-strong legs that can run as fast as a car, I couldn’t catch that speedy little dragonfly. It zoomed left, then right, then over a hill, and I followed, having so much fun that I didn’t notice how far I’d wandered from my family. When the dragonfly finally disappeared into a cluster of giant ferns, I suddenly realized I was in a strange place where nothing looked familiar.
My heart started thumping like Diplodocus footsteps! I couldn’t see the big banana-shaped rock where my family usually rested, and the trees all looked different. I tried to be brave, but I really wished I’d stayed near my parents instead of chasing after that dragonfly.
Luckily, my mom and dad are the best dinosaur parents ever! Mom used her super-nose (it’s the best of any dinosaur!) to catch my scent, while Dad used his amazing eyes (which can spot things from six football fields away!) to look for clues. They even felt the ground for vibrations from my bouncy footsteps!
When I heard the wonderful BOOM… BOOM… of their footsteps and their roars echoing through the valley, I was so relieved! They found me by following my scent trail, spotting my footprints, and feeling my path through the ground.
I learned an important lesson that day: the best adventures are the ones where you can still see your family. Now I watch dragonflies from my favorite rock, knowing that being safe makes everything more fun—even dragonfly chasing!
With tiny arms and a BIG heart, Tucker
